How do I get involved?

I propose the following model for facilitating the involvement of artists (and this would include sculptors, painters, landscape architects and gardeners, musicians, builders etc.) in the Asterion process. Many of you are by now familiar with Asterion and have become part of our community of artists and we continue to welcome new participants. We are encouraging groups and individuals to take on the realization of a portion of the labyrinth.

Here's what to do,

1. Download the text (a pdf file - 450kb) and become familiar with it. Note that this text is for your private use only and is not to be shared or distributed in any way. In addition, be aware that it is a draft and as such is subject to change.

2. Create a proposal for the realization of a portion of the script. This could be any of the events described or a transition between events. Available events will be listed shortly. Teams are encouraged. Your proposal should include sketches and a budget.

3. Send the proposal to us along with a resumé and a one paragraph bio. When your proposal is approved, we will send you an information package to help you secure sponsorships.

4. Visit the site. We will have designated times each summer for this. You will then be able to revise your plans and proceed.

Funding:

Potential artists are encouraged to apply for funding from the Ontario Arts Council, Conseil des Arts et Lettres (Quebec artists - deadline April 1 2008) and the Canada Council. In addition, there is a residency program through CALQ open to Quebec artists.

Also, artists will link up with appropriate sponsors to develop specific Asterion projects. Collectively and individually we will solicit sponsors who would be paired with these projects based on appropriate interests (for example a jeweler might sponsor The Stone Ritual).

The primary onus would be on the artist to find a sponsor or sponsors although we would certainly help that process through the preparation of information packages and web-based support material. I am working on a web page/ print page/ frame-able document which would be a template for artist/sponsor pairings. In addition, there would be on site sponsor identification and eventually a catalogue or program that would feature a page on each artist/sponsor so that both parties will have some profile as a result of the collaboration.

Here are sample pages that we will use for each artist/sponsor team
