In 2004, Composer R. Murray Schafer and Peter Schliefenbaum, owner of the 60,000 acre Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve established a home for Schafer's Patria Cycle of music dramas around a small remote lake in the Forest.

Patria designers Jerrard and Diana Smith began the task of creating a scenography in this environment for a series of works intended for production over a five year period.
