A Journey Through the Labyrinth

Research

Asterion is being developed through practice-based research led by Jerrard Smith, a professor of scenography at the University of Guelph. Beginning with the simple question of what makes spaces theatrical, an ever-growing team of artists, students, and consultants has been literally and metaphorically mapping the path that participants will take through the labyrinth. The innovative research process allows for scenographic design to evolve organically, in response to the natural micro-environments of the site, through collaboration with artists from a variety of disciplines and as part of ongoing text and performance workshops.
